About a decade ago the “vulcanhammer” family of sites (which includes chet-aero.com and The Bossuet Project) began a long migration from commercial hosting to wordpress.com. Being a webmaster for many years (and that included webstore sites) convinced me that the long-term viability of the sites depended upon someone staying on top of the hackers and their discovery of vulnerabilities in code, both the underlying code that runs the site (like PHP in WordPress’ case) or in whatever code I happened to write.
The biggest casualties in this transition were a) many of the graphics which didn’t make the move (I’ve been working on restoring these ever since) and b) the active code pieces I had written, the most important of which was my TAMWAVE driven pile wave equation program. (I’m currently working on a replacement for that.)
The recent events in PHP serve to vindicate that decision.
Thanks for your support of these sites over the years; their thirtieth anniversary is coming up next year.
